The closest accommodation near Bali is on Nusa Lembongan island, a wonderful surfing and snorkelling paradise. Cheap ccommodation is near the white sandy beach while up market Bali villas on the hill side are as much as US$200 per night.  I stayed in a villa on the hill for about US$40 per night.

The beach at Nusa Lembongan island is whiter than those near Bali.  Beautiful Indonesian fishing boats can be seen taking surfers and snorkelling tourists out to the reef.  From near the dive and surfing spots of the reef of Nusa Lembongan you can look back across coral lagoons to accommodation and restaurants on the beach.
